Though Donnie Wahlberg is the only member of the core Blue Bloods cast set to return for the long-running series' first spinoff, Boston Blue, his Danny Reagan is no longer the only character who's coming back.

Mika Amonsen has officially joined the cast of Boston Blue as Sean Reagan, Wahlberg's character's son. CBS confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Amonsen, who previously appeared in Eli Roth's 2023 holiday horror Thanksgiving, will replace Andrew Terraciano in the role. Terraciano first appeared as Sean in 2010 when he was only 7 years old, and stayed on in the recurring role through the series' finale in 2024.

CBS notes that Amonsen's version of Sean "relocated to Boston to start a new chapter as a Boston PD patrolman. Sean committed himself to pursuing his family's legacy but wanted to do so on his own terms, which meant joining a department outside of his hometown. Danny's decision to stay in Boston gives this father and son duo a chance to reconnect on a deeper level."

Boston Blue was announced in February. Slated for air in the 2025-2026 broadcast season, the series picks up with NYPD Detective Danny after he takes a position with the Boston PD, where he's paired with Sonequa Martin-Green's Lena Silver, described as "the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family."

Also joining Wahlberg, Martin-Green, and Amonsen in the cast are Ernie Hudson, who will play Lena's grandfather Reverend Peters, Psych alum Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, Boston PD's strong-willed superintendent, Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver, the Silver family matriarch, and Marcus Scribner as the Silver dynasty's youngest, Jonah. Let the great battle between the Reagans and the Silvers commence as prophesied.

Blue Bloods' cancellation hit fans hard, and some of the cast even harder. "We're the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We're winning the night. All the cast wants to come back," Tom Selleck said last year. The veteran actor played NYPD Commissioner - and Danny's father - Frank Reagan, but the team behind Boston Blue evidently wanted to explore the younger branches of the Reagan family tree.

When asked about what could become of Danny post-Blue Bloods cancelation, Wahlberg told Entertainment Weekly that he saw his character "walk right into his next chapter of his life, maybe in a different place doing a similar job and perhaps with someone from the current cast." For now, a character from the previous cast will have to do.

Boston Blue will air on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET this fall on CBS.
