Denzel Washington wasn't always known by the name that we've heard dropped in movies trailers and called out from Oscar podiums for decades.

He broached the subject during an appearance Tuesday on Jimmy Kimmel Live, after the host remarked that there are currently four NFL players named Denzel.

Denzel Washington stars in 'Highest 2 Lowest'

"And this is how you know they were named after me. My name is not pronounced Děn-ZĚL," Washington said of the name the way moviegoers know it. He added, "My name is pronounced DĚN-zǝl," emphasizing the first syllable and pronouncing the second syllable so that it rhymed with "lull."

Wait, what?!

"I'm Denzel Jr.," the actor continued, pronouncing it the way it had been intended. "My father's Denzel Hayes Washington Sr. I'm Denzel Hayes Washington Jr. My mother would say, 'Denzel,' and we'd both show up."

It was Washington's mother, the late Lennis Washington, who gave him the moniker as it is said today: "So she said, 'From now on, you're Denzel.' That's how it got pronounced Denzel."

However you say his name, Washington, 70, has been one of Hollywood's top leading men for decades.

The Highest 2 Lowest actor revealed last month in a conversation with costar A$AP Rocky and director Spike Lee, that he's "tired of movies."

Washington quipped that he'd appeared in "too many" over his career. His first TV and movie credits date back to TV movies in the late '70s.

Lee said his latest film, a reinterpretation of legendary Japanese director Akira Kurosawa's 1963 crime procedural High and Low, would probably be his final one with Washington. The two have previously collaborated on four other films, including 1990's Mo' Better Blues, 1992's Malcolm X, 1998's He Got Game, and, in 2006, Inside Man.

Washington has said he plans to retire after a few more titles, although he later clarified the statement to specify that he would still appear in movies that have "a level of interest for me."

See the actor's full conversation with Kimmel above. The part about his name begins at about 7:37.

While attending the premiere of his new film, In the Hand of Dante, he showed off his polished pink toenails

The actor's 16-year-old son, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, joined his father for his big night in Italy

The Aquaman actor, 46, looked as confident as ever as he posed on the red carpet for the 2025 Venice International Film Festival on Wednesday, Sept. 3, for the premiere of his new movie, In the Hand of Dante.

For the photo op, the actor wore pink from head to toe — literally.

Momoa modeled a tailored pink jacket and pants set paired with pink Birkenstocks of the same shade. But his love for pink didn't end there. He made sure to show off his polished pink toenails as well.

He documented his evening out on his Instagram Stories, revealing that he'd just arrived in Venice after a six-hour flight for the latest Dune installment. His 16-year-old son Nakoa-Wolf Momoa has begun filming for his role as the character Leto II (the son of Timothée Chalamet's Paul Atreides and Zendaya's Chani) in the upcoming Dune: Part Three.

Momoa appeared in 2021's Dune: Part One, starring as Duncan Idaho. Momoa is slated to reprise the role in the franchise's third film.

Nakoa-Wolf also made the trip with his dad to the Venice International Film Festival, later appearing in footage with Momoa and other family members.

The teen, whom Momoa shares with actress Lisa Bonet, coordinated with his dad by wearing a pink and black floral print short-sleeved button-down top and pants.

However, unlike the Chief of War star, Nakoa-Wolf chose not to have his toes visible.

"I got my Birkenstocks and my ugly a-- feet, but they're painted!" Momoa said as he filmed a video for his Instagram Stories while waiting to walk the red carpet. After showing off his toes for his camera, he put the focus back on his son.

"Wolfie!" he said, calling him over. "Love you."

"Love you, too!" the teen said, giving his famous father a kiss.

Ahead of the premiere, the Game of Thrones actor gushed about getting to watch his son follow in his footsteps.

"I'm doing f------ Dune with my son right now," Momoa said on the Aug. 11 episode of the SmartLess podcast. "The premiere of Chief of War, we flew to Hawaii, we did the premiere, I think [July 18th], we got on a plane that night. We landed on the 19th. My daughter's 18th was the 20th. We flew out on the 21st. We landed in Budapest on the 22nd. He went to work on the 23rd."

"His first goddamn scene, I'm sitting there, s------- my pants. He's with Zendaya. He's in it," he continued. "And I'm like 'My baby, 16 years old.' And he just killed it. I'm just crying. I was a f------ wreck. I was so proud of him."

In the Hand of Dante is a crime thriller by filmmaker Julian Schnabel, and follows the story of "a handwritten manuscript of Dante Alighieri's poem The Divine Comedy [that] makes its way from a priest to a mob boss in New York City," per a synopsis. Gal Gadot, Martin Scorsese, Gerard Butler and Al Pacino also star in the film.

Aniston and Curtis first sparked romance rumors in July when they were seen looking cozy on a yacht in Mallorca

On Tuesday, Sept. 2, a Real Housewives star revealed she dated Curtis "maybe 10 years ago"

Jennifer Aniston's new boyfriend Jim Curtis used to date a famous Bravo housewife — Bethenny Frankel.

The Real Housewives of New York City alum, 54, made the reveal on the Tuesday, Sept. 2 edition of her Just B with Bethenny Frankel podcast.

"I dated Jennifer Aniston's boyfriend and he was a nice guy," said the podcast host, noting that she was not going to get too much into detail "out of respect" for his and Aniston's relationship. She did, however, mention that their romance was "maybe 10 years ago."

"I'm happy for her, and I want to say this in the right way. His name is Jim Curtis, and he's getting a lot of attention because he's with her now and he's in like the wellness space."

Curtis has been working in the health and wellness space for over two decades as a hypnotherapist, according to his website. He is also a life coach and author in the health and wellness industry.

Wellness, however, was something Frankel and Curtis "didn't get that into," as she claimed she doesn't love all areas of it and does not always take it seriously.

"He was earlier in his journey. But with that and with the wellness aspect, there was an earthiness to it, and it does vibe with Jen Aniston," said Frankel, expressing that sometimes there are people who are better suited with other people.

"I'm happy for Jennifer Aniston because I do believe she wants to find love. I do believe it's been difficult, as I understand as well as anybody can, and I do believe she's sort of got that earthy, mellow side to her," she added.

Frankel said that based on her "institutional knowledge" of Curtis, she's "betting" on his relationship with Aniston, adding, "he's a handsome, nice man, and he seems kind."

"I think this is good. I like it, and I'm happy for her and for him, who, like I said, I thought was a lovely man," Frankel said.

NEW YORK (AP) — Paul Colford, an inexhaustibly curious journalist and author who covered the media business for decades before seeing it from another vantage point as The ' chief spokesperson, has died. He was 71.

Colford, who retired from the AP in 2017, died Aug. 26 after a fall the previous month turned a long struggle with Parkinson's disease into a rapid decline, said his wife, Anne LaBate. Despite his health problems, he was working even in recent months on his third book, about a notorious figure from his hometown of Jersey City, New Jersey.

During a decade as AP's director and ultimately vice president of media relations, Colford was known for his sage, unflappable handling of the news cooperative's dealings with other media outlets, from requests for interviews with its journalists to inquiries about its practices.

"Paul was both graceful and tough and believed completely in the AP's journalists and their mission. That was important during some pretty tough moments, particularly when an AP journalist was hurt or worse," said Kathleen Carroll, who was the news service's executive editor from 2002 to 2016. She recalled Colford as "a talented and classy colleague" who loved journalism.

He knew the ecosystem well

Colford knew the media ecosystem from the inside out and the outside in, having been a media reporter and columnist for the Daily News of New York, Newsday and the former New York Newsday. He covered magazines, book publishing, newspapers' digital evolution and the new media of the dot-com era. Reporting on the radio landscape as conservative talk rose to prominence, Colford penned unauthorized biographies of Rush Limbaugh and shock jock Howard Stern.

"He just was indefatigable," said longtime Newsday TV writer and critic Verne Gay, a colleague and friend of Colford's. "He vacuumed everything up. He knew everything and everybody. And he constantly broke stories on the beat.... I was just in awe of him."

Born Sept. 24, 1953, in Jersey City, Colford grew up there with seven siblings and graduated in 1975 from St. Peter's University. He spent part of his college years studying in Turin, Italy, and still spoke Italian in phone calls with friends from that time, his wife said.

His early jobs included a stint at The Courier News of central New Jersey, where the couple met and dated for a time in the 1970s. He took her to the first Shakespeare in the Park production she ever attended, she recalled.

The relationship fizzled, Colford went on to New York Newsday and later the Daily News, and he married the late Jane Colford and had two children, Catherine and Liam. He and LaBate still had ties through friends and family, and they got back together after he was widowed.

"We certainly both had lived whole lives" in the meantime, she said, but "it was probably even a clearer connection." They married in 2022.

A relied-upon figure during his AP years

Colford's professional life also had evolved. He took the AP's media relations job in 2007.

"To him, it was a natural extension of everything he'd ever done, which was: collect the facts, make sure that everything is accurate, make sure people get information in a timely manner," Gay said. "It was about getting information to people who needed it."

The job, in a 24/7 global news operation, is not easy. Tom Kent, who was AP's standards editor during much of Colford's tenure, recalled him as invaluable in responding to public controversies that erupted at times over its reports.

As editors debated, readers and viewers complained and other news outlets called for comment, Colford kept his cool and gave smart guidance about how best to react, said Kent, now a consultant. He said editors and executives ended up taking Colford's advice, which came with "a journalistic sensitivity and ethical integrity that won the confidence and respect of journalists and editors across the AP."

Lauren Easton, whom Colford hired in a junior role, is now an AP vice president overseeing global communications. She said he was "a fierce defender of The , always stepping up to advocate for press freedom, access and the importance of factual, nonpartisan journalism."

Colford was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease while still at AP and kept working for a while before deciding to retire, his wife and friends said.

In retirement, he was delighted that the Briscoe Center for American History, housed at the University of Texas at Austin, acquired his trove of audiotapes, videos, photos, newspaper clippings and other materials from his journalism career. And he worked on his book, amassing a new batch of news clippings and other research in his home office in Trenton, N.J., said Gay, who visited him in June.

"Paul just never let go," he said. "He was a dedicated, incredibly hardworking dude."

The NeueHouse chain of members only clubs catering to those working in creative industries will shut down on Friday. The company confirmed the decision with a lengthy message posted on its website.

NeueHouse owners cited "legacy liabilities" as the reason why the business could not continue.

"Although NeueHouse has created an extremely valuable business that is prized by members and event hosts, unfortunately, it has been burdened by legacy liabilities," according to a statement attributed to the NeueHouse board. "Despite our best efforts to find a sustainable path forward – including exploring every possible solution to address these challenges – we have made the very difficult decision to wind down the business and close NeueHouse. Our last day of operations will be this Friday, September 5th."

News of the swift shutdown surprised many industry insiders. NeueHouse locations in Los Angeles have become staples on the meeting and party circuit since the venture began more than 10 years ago.

"For over a decade, NeueHouse has served as a center of creativity, community, design and innovation where trailblazers have convened to push boundaries and discover new ideas. Our mission has always been to provide a space for creators, innovators and thought leaders to gather and connect. Thanks to you, that mission became a reality," the statement read. "While this is certainly not the outcome we envisioned for our business, we believe it is the most responsible path for all our stakeholders, though we deeply regret the impact this decision will have on our valued employees, members and customers."

The sudden shutdown comes as another ominous sign of significant struggles in the entertainment eco-system, particularly in Hollywood where the economy has faced headwinds ranging from natural disasters to labor strikes.

GENEVA/WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The White House has quietly dropped the World Trade Organization from a list of $4.9 billion in foreign aid cuts announced last Friday after the move sparked concern among lawmakers, trade groups and the head of the global trade body.

Democratic lawmakers said the administration's unilateral cuts were illegal because the funding had been authorized by Congress, and trade groups argued cutting funding for the WTO would cede territory to China.

WTO Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala told Reuters in an interview on Tuesday that she had been working with the U.S. Trade Representative's office - headed by Jamieson Greer - and others in the Trump administration to resolve the issue.

Friday's announcement noted $29 million in WTO funding as an example of U.S. contributions to international programs that violated President Donald Trump's America First priorities. The administration described the WTO as "toothless."

By Wednesday, the WTO reference was gone from the White House website.

A trade source familiar with the matter said the WTO funding was no longer being cut, but gave no further details.

The White House, USTR and WTO declined to comment.

The cuts announced on Friday are part of a broader push by Trump and his "Make America Great Again" political movement to reduce U.S. spending abroad and focus on domestic priorities. They come after a government-wide review of U.S. participation in international organizations was completed in August, though details have not been released.

Democratic and Republican administrations have been critical of the WTO for years, citing its failure to adjudicate trade conflicts or make progress on standards for global trade.

Trump has upended global trade with high tariffs imposed against nearly every trading partner, and separate bilateral trade deals that trade experts say undermine efforts to set binding multilateral rules for trade.

A senior U.S. official said the WTO reference was removed from the White House website to avoid confusion. The list referred to programs funded in the past, the source said, not line items facing fresh cuts.

The initial announcement of cancelled funding spurred questions from Congress and statements of concern from trade groups such as the National Foreign Trade Council.

The NFTC warned that withdrawing U.S. funding from the WTO would leave a vacuum that other countries would be happy to fill, a nod to China's push for more power on such bodies.

A second source familiar with the matter said the initial reference to WTO came without prior consultation with other agencies, and the fate of the funding remained unclear.

Barring specific instructions, U.S. funding for the WTO could roll over after September 30, given it comes from an account that carries over automatically at the end of the fiscal year, two of the sources said.

The administration also still owes the WTO money for 2024, Reuters reported in March. The Geneva-based trade watchdog had an annual budget of 205 million Swiss francs ($232 million) in 2024, of which Washington was due to contribute about 11%.
