MENGWI, Indonesia (AP) — Indonesian police investigating the fatal shooting of an Australian tourist at a villa on the resort island of Bali said Thursday that two Australians are suspected of arriving on a scooter and opening fire and another Australian of facilitating the crime.

Zivan Radmanovic, a 32-year-old from Melbourne, was killed just after midnight on June 13 at a villa near Munggu Beach in Bali's Badung district. A second man, a 34-year-old from Melbourne, was left beaten in the attack.

Police previously announced that they had arrested three Australian men, and at a news conference Thursday gave new details of an investigation they said was supported by the Australian Federal Police. Investigators have not revealed a motive in the killing, but said they have enough evidence to bring the men to trial on charges of premeditated murder, which could carry a life sentence or the death penalty.

The crime scene investigation and surveillance cameras have showed that two suspects, identified by their initials as MC and PT, were the shooters, Bali Police Chief Daniel Adityajaya told a news conference in Badung.

The third suspect, identified as DJF, helped the others by buying a hammer used to break down the villa door, renting two cars and three motorcycles and buying ferry and bus tickets to flee the island, Adityajaya said.

One of the suspects was caught at Jakarta's Soekarno Hatta international airport on June 16, and the following day the other two were arrested with the help of Interpol, in Singapore and Cambodia, and sent back to Indonesia.

Police on Thursday presented the three suspects handcuffed and wearing orange prison uniforms.

Witnesses at the villa told investigators that two gunmen arrived on a scooter at the villa around midnight. Radmanovic was shot in a bathroom of his room, where police found 18 bullet casings and two intact bullets.

Radmanovic's partner, Jazmyn Gourdeas, 30, told police that she suddenly woke up when she heard her husband screaming. She cowered under a blanket when she heard multiple gunshots. She later found her husband's body and the other injured Australian, whose wife also testified to seeing the attackers. The women are sisters.

Adityajaya said police have retrieved one of two guns that were thrown away by the suspects near a rice field, about 700 meters (yards) from the villa. They also found bullet residues at gloves and balaclavas inside a white van used by the three men, and the same residues also were found on the bodies of two of the suspects.

Police did not detail how they believe the suspects obtained the weapons, which are heavily regulated in Indonesia, but Adityajaya said police were still gathering evidence.

Adityajaya said that the Australian national who survived the attack and the women have been relocated to a secure location.

Sweden Democrats apologise for past Nazi links, antisemitism as election nears

Johan AhlanderJune 26, 2025 at 9:21 PM

By Johan Ahlander

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) -The anti-immigration Sweden Democrats apologised on Thursday for the party's past Nazi links and antisemitism, part of efforts to present a more moderate, mainstream image to voters ahead of a national election next year.

The Sweden Democrats were presenting the results of a specially commissioned study that found Nazi and antisemitic views to have been common at party functions and in its printed materials in the 1980s and 1990s.

"That there have been clear expressions of antisemitism and support for National Socialist ideas in my party's history I think is disgusting and reprehensible," Mattias Karlsson, a member of parliament often described as the party's chief ideologist, told a news conference.

"I would like to reiterate the party's apology, above all to Swedish citizens of Jewish descent who may have felt a strong sense of insecurity and fear for good reasons."

The commissioning of the study sought to acknowledge and break with a past that has long hindered its cooperation with Sweden's mainstream political parties. The Sweden Democrats hope to join a future coalition government after the 2026 election.

The party first entered parliament in 2010 and currently supports Sweden's governing right-wing coalition government but has no members in the cabinet.

Tony Gustafsson, the historian hired by the party to write the book, said the party had emerged in the 1980s out of neo-Nazi and white supremacist organizations and that it had continued to cooperate with them into the 1990s.

"The collaboration seems to have involved using these groups to help distribute election materials," Gustafsson said, adding there were strong indications that one such group, the "White Aryan Resistance", had served as security guards at party gatherings.

Gustafsson said there had been a clear connection to Nazism until 1995, the year that current party leader Jimmie Akesson joined the Sweden Democrats, but that the Sweden Democrats had begun distancing itself from such links thereafter.

I've run a post office from my front porch for 40 years

 • I've run a post office from my front porch for 40 years

Pip Murrison - BBC Scotland NewsJune 24, 2025 at 3:16 PM

Sub-postmistress Kathleen Anderson has been running the remote Reawick Post Office in Shetland for more than 40 years [BBC]

When Kathleen Anderson was a young mum in the 1980s she converted her front porch into a post office.

It meant she could earn a little extra money as a sub-postmistress while juggling caring for her four young daughters.

Her role was a vital one in the remote Reawick area of Shetland, where local people depended on her for paying their pensions or their family allowance.

Now a grandmother of 10 and "the wrong side of 70", Kathleen is celebrating 40 years as Reawick's sub-postmistress.

Kathleen has brought up four daughters while running the post office [BBC]

She first opened her post office in June 1985 after former postmaster Peter Fraser died suddenly.

She told BBC Scotland News: "I thought it would be a little extra money, because I was home here looking after children at the time.

"In those days most of the women around here weren't going out to work, because you couldn't, you had to drive too far and there were no childminders."

Today, Kathleen continues to serve her remote community through the same hatch her brother-in-law built 40 years ago.

To get her attention, customers walk through her front door and ring a bell next to her serving window.

Kathleen's post office is a vital facility in rural Reawick [BBC]

In this remote part of the Westside of Shetland, there are no pubs or shops and the nearest post office to Kathleen's is about 10 miles away.

She said: "It's very handy for folk in the community, sometimes I might get a customer that would pop in for a cup of tea".

Her duties have changed significantly since she first opened four decades ago.

She said: "It's not as busy now - at one time all the local pensioners came here for their pensions and anyone with a family came here for their family allowance.

"But that's no longer the case as everybody gets their money put into the bank."

Listen to the latest news from BBC Radio Shetland

More news from NE Scotland, Orkney and Shetland

Kathleen has had to adapt to the introduction of the controversial Horizon IT system and the change in consumer habits.

She said: "I suppose now there's more returns, folk ordering online and returning parcels, there's more of that now, that never was the case before."

Over the years, the post office allowed Kathleen to maintain a career while "most of the young mothers in the area would have been doing knitting of some sort for a bit of extra income".

Family has always been at the heart of Reawick post office. Kathleen brought up her children and later cared for her grandchildren part time while running the business.

Now a grandmoter of 10, Kathleen has fond memories of running the post office whilst juggling childcare. [BBC]

She said: "They used to love it. My youngest grandson would love sitting up here [by the hatch]."

"When the customers came in he would try to put their cards in the machine for them."

Despite her many years of service, Kathleen has no intention of slowing down: "Well I'm over 70 and no I haven't had any thoughts of retiring yet.

"I thought when I was 70 it might be a good time to retire, but that didn't happen, then I thought 40 years of the post office – that would be a good time to retire, but, here I am and it's not happened yet.

Why Astrologers Say June 24 Is a 'Day of Miracles'

Main Image

-

 • Why Astrologers Say June 24 Is a 'Day of Miracles'

The AstroTwinsJune 24, 2025 at 8:14 AM

If you believe in lucky days, there's one worth circling on the calendar every year. Dubbed the "Day of Miracles" by astrologers, it's the annual moment when the life-giving sun and abundant Jupiter unite at the same zodiac sign and degree in the sky. As these two heavenly hedonists team up, it can feel like anything's possible.

Astrologers also have a technical name for this rare and powerful moment: cazimi, which comes from an Arabic phrase meaning "in the heart of the sun." In astrological terms, a cazimi takes place when a planet moves within three degrees of the sun, receiving el sol's radiant, royal favor. And when that planet is Jupiter, the cosmic benefactor of growth, fortune, and wisdom? The stage is set for, you guessed it, miracles.

Getty + Design Leah Romero

The Day of Miracles falls on a different calendar date each year. In 2025, that happens to be June 24. As the red-spotted planet bathes in the sun's light, a portal opens up for breakthroughs.

For the first time since 2013-2014, the sun and Jupiter are teaming up in intuitive, emotionally layered Cancer. If you've found yourself weeping over a nostalgic TikTok, organizing a family group chat, or sifting through boxes of childhood treasures, you're already feeling the effects of the sun and Jupiter moving closer and closer together in this tenderhearted water sign.

Cancer is the zodiac's nurturer, connected to home, ancestry, and the sacred feminine. It rules over our family histories, our emotional roots, and our sense of safety and belonging. With Jupiter swimming through Cancer's sensitive waters from June 9, 2025, to June 30, 2026, empathy and emotional intelligence are on the rise. Not just personally, but collectively. Benevolent Jupiter is the global ambassador of the skies—and this signal-boost from the sun could not come soon enough.

What, exactly, might a miracle look like on June 24? While few of us will witness burning bushes, spot a Sasquatch, or score winning Powerball tickets, miracles often take subtler forms. The sweetness of a summer romance that you finally dare to open your heart to. A deeply connected conversation with your mom, sister, or one of your oldest friends—one where you feel unconditionally loved and accepted. A random interaction with a helpful stranger that restores your faith in humanity.

Merriam-Webster defines a miracle as "an extremely outstanding or unusual event, thing, or accomplishment." A Course in Miracles, a spiritual text, offers a more intimate take: A miracle is simply a "shift in perception from fear to love."

In that spirit, the sun-Jupiter meetup (i.e., "the Jupiter cazimi") invites us to recognize where we may be blocking our blessings—not because we're flawed, but because fear has quietly crept in. No, we may not be able to erase our worries entirely. But we can choose to acknowledge our fears, and then act in spite of them. That's where the miracle lives: in the courage to move forward in the face of our own inner resistance.

Since Cancer is associated with our childhoods, the 2025 Day of Miracles might stir up some monsters hiding under the metaphoric bed. Maybe it's the sweaty-palmed panic that hits before speaking up in a meeting, or a friendship dynamic that you haven't challenged because you're afraid people won't like you if you say no. June 24 is the day to take a different approach. Share your opinion. Draw the boundaries. Then, let other people deal with their ensuing emotions—while you resist the shadow side of Cancer: caretaking.

The 2025 Day of Miracles also offers a priceless opportunity to confront generational patterns. Since Cancer is the sign of the mother, examine the narratives you inherited from the women in your life. You may feel inspired to rewrite a family belief around money, relationships, or self-worth. Maybe you'll dare to try something no lady in your lineage ever has.

While the Day of Miracles has not been recognized as an international holiday (hey, an astrologer can dream), we wouldn't fault you for taking a day off this Tuesday, June 24. The sun and Jupiter love nothing more than a vacation, so slip Tina Knowles's memoir, Matriarch, in your tote as a beach read, then head to the nearest pool or shore.

16 Retro Diners Through the Decades

-

 • 16 Retro Diners Through the Decades

Rachel SchneiderJune 24, 2025 at 3:58 PM

A retro-style diner with a shiny metal exterior, red diamond patterns, and a large red neon "Diner" sign on the roof. The building has horizontal windows with closed blinds.

Restaurants come and go, but diners are forever. These no-frills dining establishments embrace simple menus of American favorites; over the years, they've been just as much a place to socialize as they have been to grab a bite to eat. From bootleggers grabbing a stack of flapjacks in the '20s to teens splitting milkshakes in the '50s, these photos show each era's unique flair when it comes to diners.

1. Frosted Mugs = Game Changer

Hooverpaul / Reddit.com

We still love a good frosted mug in 2025, but the chilled drinking vessel was one of the main draws at this 1940s diner, alongside nickel-hot dogs, dime-"hamburgs," and platters for just 25 cents.

2. Zep Diner in Los Angeles

AxlCobainVedder / Reddit.com

We have to applaud the architecture of the 1930s Zep Diner in Los Angeles, which, like the building and its name, was inspired by a zeppelin. Chicken, steak, and sandwiches were on the menu.

3. Sit-In at a Woolworth's Lunch Counter

RoseHorizon / Reddit.com

Four African American students staged a peaceful sit-in at a Woolworth's diner in Greensboro, North Carolina, during the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. They waited and refused to leave until they were served their food.

4. The Ultimate Meeting Spot

woden_spoon / Reddit.com

Over the decades, diners have developed a reputation as a go-to spot to go socialize with friends. This group of guys got together for morning coffee at a diner in 1998.

5. Talk About Vintage

Don_Adriano / Reddit.com

Tucked between speakeasies and streetcars, 1920s greasy spoons served up flapjacks, strong brew, and late-night conversation to gangsters, bootleggers, and working-class locals alike.

6. The Official Uniform

AxlCobainVedder / Reddit.com

Waitress Helen Ann Smith at a Memphis diner on Beale Street rocked her iconic uniform during her shift in the 1950s.

7. So Satisfying

UserDeleted / Reddit.com

There's something seriously satisfying about a clean, empty diner after all the patrons have gone home and all the employees have finished cleaning up. This diner in West Virginia in 1930 is practically sparkling.

8. Friday Night at the Local Drive-In Diner

iamstephen / Reddit.com

After the Friday Night Lights dimmed, teens pulled up to the drive-in diner in shiny Chevys to share milkshakes in parked cars and feed the jukebox while Elvis tunes filled the air.

9. Uranium Burger!

5_Frog_Margin / Reddit.com

During the 1950s, Utah was known for its booming uranium industry. This Salt Lake City diner dialed in their marketing and sold uranium burgers for 45 cents a piece — all beef, no radioactivity.

10. Hey, Do You Guys Offer a Quaker Breakfast?

CincoDeMayoFan / Reddit.com

This diner in 1955 was a living, breathing Quaker Breakfast advertisement. For 30 cents, you could get oatmeal and a side of toast, plus juice and coffee. And there was no need to ask the waitress what the Quaker Breakfast included since it was plastered all over the restaurant.

11. Sundae Time

CincoDeMayoFan / Reddit.com

In the 1930s, diners offered ice cream sundaes served in fluted glass dishes. Topped with hot fudge, whipped cream, and a bright red cherry, these indulgent treats were an affordable luxury during the Great Depression.

12. Paper Hats and Bow Ties

CincoDeMayoFan / Reddit.com

In the 1940s, diner staff rocked those crisp white paper hats and bow ties, flipping burgers and pouring endless cups of coffee to patrons at every barstool.

13. Straightforward Signage

deniscard / Reddit.com

Back in 1958, diners believed in broadcasting what they offered on the outside of the restaurant. Moore's ice cream, steaks, chops, seafood, and Coca-Cola? Sounds good; pull in, Jim!

14. Those Neon Lights

lamprey187 / Reddit.com

In the '70s, neon lights gave diners their signature glow — bright pinks, electric blues, and buzzing signs on those open-late spots lit up the night.

15. Waiting for Customers

EggsAckley / Reddit.com

Business wasn't always booming at this South Texas diner in 1939. The waitress looks begrudgingly bored and the cook in the back may or may not be napping standing up.

16. Diner Dates

RyanSmith / Reddit.com

Sharing milkshakes with two straws, splitting a basket of fries, and letting the jukebox set the mood while flirting in vinyl booths … diner dates in the 1950s were a complete vibe, and our minds go back to that iconic scene in "Grease" every time.

A woman in Scotland revealed that she lives with her two ex-husbands

46-year-old Kristie De Garis explained how the unlikely living situation came to be and how living together removed the burden of traditional gender roles

"My daughters are growing up watching domestic labour shared fairly," she wrote

A woman is opening up about how living with her two ex-husbands lightened her load at home.

In a Tuesday, June 24 essay for The Times, 46-year-old Kristie De Garis revealed how she's able to live with her two former husbands and their daughters in Scotland.

"Yes, we all live together. Me, my first ex-husband, my second ex-husband and our two daughters (one from each marriage), in a pebble-dashed, gravel drive, four-bedroom house in rural Scotland," De Garis wrote.

She continued, "Sure, there are bathroom bottlenecks, and the ongoing mystery of who used the last of the coffee. And with three main suspects in the mix, there are many morning arguments over who needs to don slippers, coat and scarf and trudge down to the village post office to buy more."

De Garis revealed that she married her first husband at the age of 21 shortly before they welcomed their first child together. However, after a few years, they decided to part ways.

She then met her second husband a few years later, with them tying the knot and welcoming a daughter.

"Older, more committed to trying, we bought a house together, co-parented two kids and separated just before the pandemic," she wrote.

The pair ultimately decided to continue living in the same house since they weren't able to "afford to split properly."

"He took the downstairs bedroom, I took upstairs, and the kids kept their own spaces. There were tensions, of course," she admitted. "The same arguments over cleaning styles, spending, parenting, and then the steady awkwardness of long-term proximity but from a romantic distance."

However, De Garis was still left being the "the unacknowledged project manager" of the house and continued to cook and do all the chores while holding down her job. She ultimately decided it might be easier if her first ex-husband, who had been struggling to make ends meet, moved in, too.

"My pitch to Ex No 2 hit all the high notes. More time, more support, less stress, less mess, less nagging. His fantasy," she said. "Almost mine. So when I asked, he said, yes, he was willing to try. We spoke to the kids, both of whom were thrilled, and that was that."

De Garis revealed that the household found their "new rhythm" very quickly with there being less pressure in the home.

Getty

Stock image of three people standing together in Scotland

Despite the better balance, the trio still dealt with some tensions, especially in the area of cooking. De Garis decided that she would no longer be the cook of the house until her ex-husbands learned some culinary skills.

"Suffice to say, that didn't go well," she said. "I was unreasonable, reactionary. I was selfish."

Despite the protests, both of her ex-husbands now help with cooking throughout the week. That's not the only way that they split household labor, either.

"One of them always vacuums the stairs on the weekend. One of them regularly freshens up the downstairs bathroom," she wrote. "I put laundry in the machine, forget about it — wet, unspun — and find it dried and folded in the basket. The dishwasher gets unloaded before I even notice it is on."

She added, "And maybe even more radical: my daughters are growing up watching domestic labour shared fairly."

"We're not a sitcom. We're not saints. We're three adults who care about the same two kids and decided that getting along was better than burning it all down or burning out," De Garis admitted.
