Ron Howard spoke to PEOPLE on July 15 after earning his first-ever acting nomination for the 2025 Emmy Awards with his guest starring role on The Studio
During his interview, Ron praised his brother Clint's work after he also received his own Daytime Emmy nomination for his role as Tom Starr on The Bold and the Beautiful
Throughout his career, Clint has appeared in 17 films directed by Ron, including Grand Theft Auto, Cocoon, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Parenthood and Apollo 13
Ron Howard may be getting his flowers for The Studio, but he's also relishing in his brother Clint's success.
The 71-year-old child star-turned-director — who received his first-ever acting nomination for the 2025 Emmy Awards with his guest starring role on The Studio — tells PEOPLE that he was equally thrilled for Clint, who received his own Daytime Emmy nomination for his role as down-and-out musician Tom Starr on The Bold and the Beautiful.
"Clint is nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the guest actor category... I know he did a good job because people come up and talk to me about his performance on that," he says of his brother, 66.

"And so I saw one episode, I thought he was great," he adds. "And it was one of those things where they brought him in for one episode and he wound up doing 10 or 12 of them."
When asked if he gives his brother any notes on his performance, the Happy Days alum is quick to shut it down.
"Oh, no, no. He's just fun," he says. "When I'm casting, I'm sure he gets notes, but when I'm watching him, I'm just enjoying my brother. He's a very individual talent. Has his own cadence and vibe."
The Oscar winner previously told PEOPLE that it was "not surprising" that Clint was brought onto the soap opera.
"He is a great character actor and so recognizable, and so people are always excited when he shows up in something," he shared in April. "I think he went in to do one episode on the series and they wound up, he wound up with a character run."
He praised his brother's talents, saying, "He's inventive, he's unique, and he is a talented guy."
"He's a pro, and he contributes," he shared at the time. "Every time I have had a chance to cast him in something meaningful, I never forced him in there. But every time I can cast Clint, I know that's one character I won't have to worry about."

The pair — who co-authored the memoir The Boys: A Memoir of Hollywood and Family — also enjoy having" some laughs standing around in between setups," Ron shared of working together. "He does not hold his tongue around his big brother, which is very welcome by all."
Throughout his career, Clint has appeared in 17 films directed by Ron, including Grand Theft Auto, Cocoon, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Parenthood and Apollo 13.
Clint also reflected on his role about his preparation for filming The Bold and the Beautiful in 2024, telling PEOPLE in April, "You're handed a lot of scenes to do, and you'd better be prepared."
"I was taught by both my mom and dad, Rance and Jean Howard, since I was a little kid that my primary responsibility is to be prepared to show up to work, even as a very young child.… And then knowing that in soap operas, it's possible to get handed boatloads of dialogue, and you've got to learn it. You've got to understand it. You've got to be able to deliver it. You've got to be light on your feet."
