<p>Despite 15 years on the fantasy series Supernatural, Jensen Ackles remains very much rooted in reality.</p>
<p>In this week's issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday, the actor, 47, opens up about his life at home in Connecticut with his wife, Danneel, 46, their daughter Justice, 12, and their 8-year-old twins Zeppelin and Arrow.</p>
<p>"I've got a really, really quiet, peaceful life," says Ackles. "When I go home, I'm home. I'm not Jensen the actor. I'm Jensen the husband, the dad, the friend, the brother, the son. I think having that stability in my personal life has really given me a good grounding, a good foundation for what I do."</p>
<p>The Dallas native — who modeled as a kid — was 19 when he began his first steady gig playing Eric Brady on Days of Our Lives in 1997. Over thee years, he earned three Daytime Emmy nominations for the role.</p>
<p>Still, he had fears about his acting career. "You can get jobs, and then, that's it. You never work again," he says.</p>

<p>Jensen Ackles and wife Danneel Ackles with their kids at DisneylandAs he continued to book roles on shows like Smallville and Dawson's Creek in the early 2000s, he "realized this was not going to be easy, but I was still like, 'This is what I want to do,'" he says.</p>
<p>In 2005, he joined the cast of Supernatural as lovable bad boy Dean, and "it was lightning in a bottle," he says.</p>
<p>After 327 episodes, the series ended in 2020. It became the longest running North American sci-fi series in history and remains beloved amongst fans.</p>
<p>In 2022, Ackles joined the cast of Prime Video's The Boys as arrogant superhero Soldier Boy. A year later, Ackles and Danneel — whom he met on the set of the movie Ten Inch Hero in 2006 and calls "the single tallest tentpole in my life" — moved from Texas to Connecticut in order to be closer to Toronto, where he shoots the show.</p>
<p>When the opportunity for Ackles to shoot the new Prime Video crime drama Countdown in Los Angeles came up, the couple "just kind of made it work," he says. "I mean, it's our normal."</p>

<p>Jensen Ackles and Eric Dane in 'Countdown'Lately, Ackles' job has earned him some "cool cred" with his eldest daughter, Justice.</p>
<p>"It's not just because of what I do, but because of who I know sometimes," Ackles says. "That's given me a lot of credit — not only with her, but with her friends, which is key."</p>
<p>While Justice hasn't gotten to watch her dad's projects yet, Countdown just might be her first viewing.</p>
<p>"She is begging me to watch it, so I might let her," he says. "I might have to skip some parts. I think she might be on the cusp of watching Supernatural."</p>
<p>As for the provocative The Boys?</p>
<p>"I don't ever want her watching," he jokes, before adding, "Maybe when she's in her 30s."</p>
<p>As he reflects on his 30-year career, Ackles has some fresh advice for his younger self, the one who once had fears about following his acting dreams.</p>
<p>"Buckle up," he says. "It's going to be a long ride."</p>
