Victoria Beckham is an undisputed style icon, and her 1999 wedding gown just might be one of her most memorable looks.

On July 4, 1999, Victoria married soccer star David Beckham at the Luttrellstown Castle near Dublin. While David wore a chic white suit, Victoria opted for a stunning champagne ball gown made by iconic bridal designer Vera Wang.

The silk pleated dress featured a 20-foot train and a sculpted, strapless neckline. To top off the look, Victoria accessorized the ensemble with an 18-karat gold tiara by jewelry designer Slim Barrett.

Although the couple later ditched their white ceremony outfits in favor of matching purple getups for their reception, Victoria's wedding dress remains one of the most iconic staples from their lavish wedding and in her fashion lookbook as a whole.

From details on the tiara to how that cinched bodice was made, here's everything to know about Victoria Beckham's wedding dress.

The corset was made by Mister Pearl

One of couture's most celebrated corsetieres, Mister Pearl designed the underbodice for Victoria's wedding dress, which helped augment the structural top half of her ensemble.

"The actual underbodice was made by a very famous couture corsetiere named Mister Pearl, who works only out of London," Wang told PEOPLE in 2023. "He makes corsets that have to be pulled [in] with these metal things, which is how corsets were done in the old days."

Mister Pearl has worked with a slew of designers throughout his career, including Thierry Mugler and Vivienne Westwood.

He also famously created Kim Kardashian's cinched corset for her iconic 2019 Met Gala look. The fashion entrepreneur joked in a red carpet interview with Vogue that she wasn't sure if she could take a "deep breath" while wearing the staple piece.

"It takes about 45 minutes to lace up," Wang added of Mister Pearl's unique corsets. "And it can take your waist down to literally 18 inches [like] Scarlett O'Hara."

The gown flew across the Atlantic four times

Since Mister Pearl exclusively works out of England, Victoria's dress — specifically its sculpted bodice — had to fly back and forth between New York City and London.

"I call it the transatlantic dress," Wang told PEOPLE, adding that the bodice had to fly four times across the pond.

Wang flew out to London to help fit the corset onto Victoria, and the former Spice Girl also had to visit New York twice for more fittings. Things took a pause, however, when Victoria became pregnant with her and David's firstborn, Brooklyn.

"So then we delayed the wedding for two years," Wang said. "Then we resumed, or maybe a year and a half. So that is [what] I call the transatlantic wedding with Victoria and David."

The designer also fondly remembered a baby Brooklyn "crawling around on the bed in London" during the fittings.

Victoria topped off her bridal ensemble with an iconic staple piece — an 18-karat gold tiara.

To create the gorgeous headpiece, the Spice World star tapped jewelry designer Slim Barrett, who has collaborated with fashion houses like Chanel and Versace throughout his career and designed pieces for Mick Jagger and Princess Diana.

The tiara, named the "East of Paris," was made from 18-carat latticed gold and adorned with brilliant-cut diamonds and suspended diamond drops.

After the wedding, Barrett kept the crown, and it was later displayed at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London for its 100 Tiaras, Past and Present show.

Barrett eventually put up the tiara for auction in 2013 at Bonhams in London, where it was valued between 18,000 and 25,000 pounds.

"Inspiration for East of Paris came from my love of Eastern design and Parisian haute couture," Barrett told British Vogue at the time. "I set out to fuse the two styles."

Victoria still has her wedding dress

Years after their wedding, Victoria has held onto her gown.

In a 2018 video for British Vogue, the fashion designer whipped out the wedding dress to honor her brand's 10th anniversary and to celebrate her life in looks.

"Today we're here at Vogue and we are shooting a cover story celebrating the rich and inspiring history of one of the most enduring style icons of all time … me, Victoria Beckham," she joked at the start of the video.

Later on, as she tried on more looks, Victoria quipped, "You know I'm a minimalist, right?"

"Super simple every time," she added before the clip cut to her posing in her elaborate wedding dress.

Victoria changed into a colorful second dress for the reception

While Victoria's bridal gown was the star of her wedding ceremony, her and David's color-coordinated purple ensembles for their reception threatened to steal the spotlight.

David donned a double-breasted suit with a purple flower pin, while Victoria sported a mermaid-cut dress with a floral embellished strap. In their 2023 Netflix docuseries Beckham, the couple reflected on their "very '90s" fashion choices.

"I tried to think back to when I decided to wear a purple suit and I don't know when that happened," David said. "I think I just took Victoria's lead on it. But what were we thinking?"

"But it was fun," Victoria replied, defending the pair's look. "We weren't worried about what people would say. I mean, Christ, how lovely to be that way when you just really don't care."

To celebrate their 25th anniversary in July 2024, the Beckhams pulled out the purple looks once more and posted an adorable photo on Instagram with the caption, "Look what we found…"
