President Donald Trump's approval rating has largely held steady in recent weeks, though a pair of polls released following his decision to bomb multiple nuclear sites in Iran offer initial glimpses into how the conflict could be affecting Americans' opinions of his job performance.

Two polls released this week showed the president at a 41% approval rating, a few points below June averages that have hovered around 45%. The poll numbers come amid a CNN/SSRS survey also released this week showing a majority of Americans disapprove of the president's strikes in Iran.

Trump has issued an onslaught of divisive and legally contentious executive actions throughout his return to the White House. In these first few months of this term, his approval ratings have been historically low by several measures. See how he ranks compared to previous presidents:

What is Trump's approval rating?

An average of recent polling from the New York Times shows Trump's approval rating at 44%, as of June 27 with 52% disapproving of his job performance. Pollster Nate Silver's "Silver Bulletin" newsletter calculated the president has a 45% approval and 52% disapproval Friday, and RealClearPolitics' average was slightly higher, giving the president a 47% approval and 51% disapproval rating.

In a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday, June 26, the Republican leader had a 41% approval rating among respondents, with 54% disapproving. This compares to Quinnipiac's poll released June 11, when 38% approved and 54% disapproved.

What do polls say about Trump's decision to bomb Iran?

A Reuters/Ipsos poll released earlier this week gave Trump a similar 41% approval number, the lowest that the poll has found in his second term and down one point from earlier in the month. The poll opened after U.S. airstrikes on Iran on June 21 and ended early June 23 before Iran said it attacked a U.S. air base in Qatar. The Reuters/Ipsos survey gave him a 57% disapproval rating, with opinions of his stance on the economy and foreign policy both slipping four points to 35% approval.

Approximately 84% of respondents said they were worried about the conflict; 32% of respondents said they supported more airstrikes from the U.S., while 49% said they opposed the idea, Reuters found.

How does Trump's approval rating compare to previous presidents?

A historical analysis by Gallup shows Trump's approval ratings in June of his first years in office − both as the 45th and 47th presidents − are lower than any other modern president at the same time in their administrations.

In a Gallup poll conducted from June 2-19, 40% approved of Trump's job performance. Here is how that compares to other presidents in June of their first year of their term, according to Gallup:

Joe Biden (June 2021) - 56% approve

Trump (June 2017) - 38% approve

Barack Obama (June 2009) - 61% approve

George W. Bush (June 2001) - 54% approve

Bill Clinton (June 1993) - 41% approve

George H.W. Bush (June 1989) - 70% approve

Ronald Reagan (June 1981) - 59% approve
