Rankings – and the debates those create – fuel the NBA, more so than any of the major domestic sports leagues.

Player rankings in particular span generations and eras, showcasing the league's elite starpower. We enlisted 12 NBA experts across the USA TODAY Network and asked them to rank a field of 40 players, taking the weighted average to generate the USA TODAY Sports Top 25 NBA player rankings for the 2025-26 season.

For the purposes of this year's rankings, we have omitted star players who are likely to miss at least the majority of the season due to injury – players like Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton and Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving.

Who topped our rankings? Check out our countdown from 25 to 1 below. And if you disagree, tell us why by dropping a note to Lorenzo Reyes at [email protected].

1 / 25Top 25 players in the NBA ahead of the 2025-26 season25. Ja Morant, guard, Memphis GrizzliesUSA TODAY Sports' Top 25 NBA players rankings25. Ja Morant, guard, Memphis Grizzlies

2024-25 stats: 23.2 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 7.3 apg

Injuries have taken their toll on Ja Morant over the last two years, but fans haven't forgotten just how impactful he can be when he's on the court. Never much of a three-point shooter, Morant is someone who can slash and dominate inside, which is tough to do for someone his size (6-foot-2). He's a strong, athletic player who can take over games. In his last fully-healthy season (2022-23), Morant finished 12th in MVP voting and averaged more than 26.2 points per game.

Last season's ranking: 26th

24. Pascal Siakam, forward, Indiana Pacers

2024-25 stats: 20.2 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 3.4 apg

Siakam played a key role in the Pacers' success last season. He was named an All-Star for the third time in his career and won the Eastern Conference Finals MVP after leading the Pacers past the New York Knicks in a six-game series.

Last season's ranking: not ranked

23. James Harden, guard, Los Angeles Clippers

2024-25 stats: 22.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 8.7 apg

It was a resurgent 2024-25 season for Harden, who earned all-NBA honors for the first time since 2020 when he was still with the Houston Rockets. Though Harden's shooting numbers dipped while playing mostly point guard for the Clippers, his scoring average was the highest it had been in five years. His free throw, rebound and assist rate also improved, and he appeared in more games (78) than he had in almost a decade.

Last season's ranking: not ranked

22. Jimmy Butler, forward, Golden State Warriors

2024-25 stats: 17.5 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 5.4 apg

Butler isn't ranked here for his regular-season play; it's "Playoff Jimmy" where the now 36-year-old has proven himself over the years. But, as he gets older, the question is whether he has enough left in the tank to help push the Warriors to another championship run in the competitive Western Conference.

Last season's ranking: 25th

— Golden State Warriors (@warriors) September 8, 2025

21. Evan Mobley, forward, Cleveland Cavaliers

2024-25 stats: 18.5 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 3.2 apg

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Mobley is much more than a lengthy stopper. Coach Kenny Atkinson has empowered Mobley to be a stretch forward who can knock down shots from the corner just as easily as he can go to work in the low block. He only just turned 24 in June and finished 10th in MVP voting last season. A further leap could be incoming.

Last season's ranking: not ranked

20. Jaylen Brown, guard, Boston Celtics

2024-25 stats: 22.2 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 4.5 apg

The best players in the world are those who can rise to the occasion when their teammates struggle. Brown is that guy. When Jayson Tatum struggled in the 2024 NBA Finals, Brown earned Finals MVP. In fact, the only game the Celtics lost to Dallas in that series was one in which Brown struggled to score (3 of 12 from the field in Game 4). Regardless, Brown is dependable and might be the best No. 2 in the league. With Jayson Tatum likely out for the year, we'll see if Brown can once again elevate himself to the level the Celtics need from him.

Last season's ranking: 15th

19. Joel Embiid, center, Philadelphia 76ers

2024-25 stats: 23.2 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 4.5 apg

Embiid played just 19 games due to a knee injury, in what was a disastrous season for the 76ers. When healthy, Embiid shot 44.4% from the field. He could help lead Philly back to the postseason, but he needs to be on the floor. Embiid was the most polarizing player on the list; he was ranked as high as 5th and as low as 38th.

Last season's ranking: 5th

18. Karl-Anthony Towns, forward-center, New York Knicks

New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns dunks during Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Indiana Pacers on May 27, 2025.

2024-25 stats: 24.4 ppg, 12.8 rpg, 3.1 apg

Towns jumps in the rankings after a successful first season with the Knicks in which he earned all-NBA honors for the third time in his 10-year career and fit in well alongside fellow All-Star Jalen Brunson. One of the best 3-point shooting big men in history could see a boost in his numbers playing at a faster tempo under new Knicks coach Mike Brown.

Last season's ranking: 30th

17. Jalen Williams, forward, Oklahoma City Thunder

2024-25 stats: 21.6 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 5.1 apg

An elite two-way player – he made both the All-NBA and All-Defensive teams – Williams' meteoric rise (he is entering just his fourth NBA season) will help the Thunder and their young core stay in the championship conversation. He signed a new five-year, maximum rookie contract extension that could reach $287 million.

Last season's ranking: not ranked

16. Paolo Banchero, forward, Orlando Magic

2024-25 stats: 25.9 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 4.8 apg

Banchero was sidelined in the first half of the season with a torn oblique, but he returned to post career highs in points and rebounds in 46 games. He'll turn just 23 in mid-November and has diversified his offensive portfolio to include a silky mid-range, straight-line drives to the basket and occasional hits from three-point range.

Last season's ranking: 28th

15. Devin Booker, guard, Phoenix Suns

2024-25 stats: 25.6 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 7.1 apg

One of the best pure scorers in the NBA, Booker has the potential to absolutely take over any game. You might blink, and then, all of a sudden, he'll have 50. In fact, he's the only player younger than 30 with eight or more 50-point games. Though Booker was not an All-Star last season, his scoring prowess makes him an easy fit on almost any team in the NBA. He has tallied at least 25 points per game in seven consecutive seasons. This season in Phoenix, with Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal gone, the show is his to run.

Last season's ranking: 13th

14. Kawhi Leonard, forward, Los Angeles Clippers

2024-25 stats: 21.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 3.1 apg

Leonard played just 37 regular-season games, missing the start of the campaign with knee inflammation, but he was healthy for the Clippers in the playoffs. And while he was ineligible for postseason awards, he was tabbed as the NBA Player of the Week for Week 24 of the season (March 31-April 6). He'll be facing the NBA-backed investigation on salary cap circumvention, but now at 34, health also remains a concern.

Last season's ranking: 14th

13. Anthony Davis, forward-center, Dallas Mavericks

2024-25 stats: 24.7 ppg, 11.6 rpg, 3.5 apg

Davis is a feared defensive anchor and powerful interior offensive option – when healthy – and the centerpiece of the Mavericks' bold decision to trade away Luka Dončić. Davis played just nine regular-season games for the Mavericks last season due to injury, but Dallas should remain a Western Conference threat so long as he's on the court. Davis made second team all-NBA when he appeared in 76 games for the Lakers in 2023-24.

Last season's ranking: 11th

12. Cade Cunningham, guard, Detroit Pistons

2024-25 stats: 26.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 9.1 apg

Cunningham, who posted career-bests in points and assists, has blossomed into one of the league's top playmakers, scoring at will and passing to teammates who can finally make baskets. This is evident from the team's 30-win improvement from 2023-24 (which included a record 28-game losing streak) and a playoff appearance that ended a five-year drought.

Last season's ranking: not ranked

11. Jalen Brunson, guard, New York Knicks

2024-25 stats: 26.0 ppg, 2.9 apg, 7.3 rpg

Equipped with a range of crafty moves to work his way into the paint and blessed with a reliable left-handed shot, Brunson has been the engine in New York's revival as a contender in the East. Brunson, winner of the 2024-25 Clutch Player of the Year award, has thrived with the ball in his hands. But with new coach Mike Brown on the sideline, the Knicks may opt to diversify the offense a bit more, using Brunson in off-ball actions.

Last season's ranking: 12th

CLUTCH: Brunson, Knicks seek to exorcise NBA championship demons

10. Donovan Mitchell, guard, Cleveland Cavaliers

2024-25 stats: 24.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 5.0 apg

Mitchell is exactly what the Cavaliers needed when they acquired him ahead of the 2022-23 season. He has been an All-Star in six consecutive seasons and just led the Cavs to the best record in the Eastern Conference. He is an elite scorer with underrated MVP upside. When paired with the young defensive studs the Cavaliers have, it makes Mitchell's job that much easier.

Last season's ranking: 18th

9. Kevin Durant, forward, Houston Rockets

Forward Kevin Durant poses for a picture during Houston Rockets media day at Toyota Center on Sept. 29, 2025.

2024-25 stats: 26.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 4.2 apg

Durant finished sixth in the NBA in scoring (26.6) and minutes (36.5) per game while he was a member of the Phoenix Suns, but he missed 20 games last season. He was also named an All-Star for the 15th time in his professional career. Now with the Rockets, he joins a team that should highlight his silky mid-range jumper with a coach in Ime Udoka who knows how to maximize Durant's unicorn skill set.

Last season's ranking: 9th

8. LeBron James, forward, Los Angeles Lakers

2024-25 stats: 24.4 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 8.2 apg

James remains one of the NBA's top all-around offensive threats, particularly in transition, as he begins his record-breaking 23rd season. The 40-year-old was second-team All-NBA last year and will be playing for the Lakers on an expiring contract in 2025-26. His court vision and play-making has not waned, and he'll look to add to his remarkable all-time career scoring total of 42,184 points.

Last season's ranking: 8th

LEBRON: Gives retirement hints, and whether he will wait for son, Bryce

7. Victor Wembanyama, forward-center, San Antonio Spurs

2024-25 stats: 24.3 ppg, 11.0 rpg, 6.4 apg

When healthy, Wembanyama is the league's top defender and is starting to become a unique threat on offense as well. His shooting ability and range, at his size, is unlike anything the NBA has ever seen. If the Spurs can achieve anything this year – in this case, even sniff a playoff berth – this could mark the beginning of Wembanyama being in the MVP conversation for years to come.

Last season's ranking: 16th

6. Stephen Curry, guard, Golden State Warriors

2024-25 stats: 24.5 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 6.0 apg

The greatest shooter of all-time, Curry is a relentless hard-worker who is just as effective off the ball – sprinting all over the floor to work off screens and create separation – as he is with the rock in his hands. There's no shot he cannot make, but there are signs that Curry, 37, is slowing down. Removing the COVID-altered 2019-20 season, when he played only five games because of a broken left hand, Curry notched his fewest minutes per game (32.2) since 2011-12.

Last season's ranking: 7th

5. Anthony Edwards, guard, Minnesota Timberwolves

2024-25 stats: 27.6 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 4.5 apg

If the word "dawg" were to ever be truly accepted into the English vernacular, its definition would come alongside a picture of Edwards. The former No. 1 overall pick has finished seventh in MVP voting for the past two years, and he had a case for a higher placement after he increased his 3-point efficiency to a stellar 39.5% clip last season. He has been named an All-Star in three consecutive seasons and a member of the All-NBA second team two years in a row.

Last season's ranking: 10th

4. Luka Dončić, guard, Los Angeles Lakers

2024-25 stats: 28.2 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 7.7 apg

In a move that shocked the NBA, Dončić was traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Lakers in February. Dončić and the Lakers reached the first round of the playoffs but will be in search of accomplishing more this year. He has spent time during the offseason getting in shape and playing EuroLeague as part of his preparation for the upcoming season. Though he tends to be a ball-dominant player, Dončić is methodical in getting to his spots and scoring from all over the floor. But he's also an artist in the passing game, so his teammates need to be ready at all times for shot opportunities.

Last season's ranking: 3rd

3. Giannis Antetokounmpo, forward, Milwaukee Bucks

2024-25 stats: 30.4 ppg, 11.9 rpg, 6.5 apg

Antetokounmpo remains perhaps the league's best two-way weapon entering his 13th season and earned first-team All-NBA honors for the seventh year in a row in 2024-25. The two-time MVP set a career high for assists in 2024-25 and shot better than 60% from the field for the second consecutive season (he's the only player in NBA history to do that while averaging more than 30 points per game).

Last season's ranking: 2nd

2. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, guard, Oklahoma City Thunder

2024-25 stats: 32.7 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 6.4 apg

It's a rarity that the league's leading scorer and reigning MVP is not at the top of this list, but Gilgeous-Alexander more than earned his worth after leading the Thunder to their first NBA championship; and he was rewarded with a four-year, $285 million supermax extension. He seemingly glides across the floor, is never hurried and is one of the most consistent scorers in the NBA.

Last season's ranking: 4th

1. Nikola Jokić, center, Denver Nuggets

2024-25 stats: 29.6 ppg, 12.7 rpg, 10.2 apg

Three players – Jokić, Gilgeous-Alexander and Antetokounmpo – received at least one first-place vote, but it was Jokić who ran away with the top spot on this list, drawing 10 first-place selections from the panel. Jokić, 30, has finished first or second in MVP voting in each of the last five seasons, with three awards. He became just the third player in NBA history to average a triple-double in a single season, joining Oscar Robertson (1961-62) and Jokić 's teammate from last year, Russell Westbrook (four times). He is the best passing big in the world and draws so much defensive attention, which creates scoring chances for his teammates. He shines in the clutch, has unparalleled footwork in the post and has an unconventional shot that has become wildly efficient. Jokić set career highs last season in 3-point attempts (4.7) and conversions (2.0) per game and 3-point shooting percentage (41.7%).

SINGAPORE (AP) — This week's Singapore Grand Prix has officially been declared a "heat hazard," meaning cars must carry cooling equipment. It's the first time the rule has been used in Formula 1.

Race director Rui Marques declared a heat hazard on Thursday because the temperature is forecast to be above 31 degrees (88 F) during the race weekend. The temperature in the F1 website forecast for Saturday is 32 C, rising to 33 C on Sunday.

Under new rules for 2025, governing body the FIA introduced cooling vests for drivers which pump fluid around a network of tubes in the vest.

Drivers don't have to use the system but can't save weight by leaving it out.

Even drivers who don't wear the vest must have some cooling system equipment fitted in the car, along with ballast to compensate for the weight of the vest.

The FIA started work on cooling technology for drivers after the Qatar Grand Prix in 2023 saw drivers require medical attention after feeling unwell in the heat.

Singapore is a notoriously tough race for F1 drivers because of the heat and humidity on the street circuit, even though the race is held at night. In the past, F1 drivers have said the Singapore heat makes their in-car drinking water supplies uncomfortable to drink, some likening it to hot tea.

English golfer Tyrell Hatton has underlined that insults are not "the way forward" when it comes to fan behavior at the Ryder Cup, several days after his victory with Team Europe.

The language used by American fans towards European players at Bethpage Black became a flashpoint during last weekend's tournament, which Europe won 15-13 after staving off a dramatic US fightback on Sunday.

Players were subjected to verbal abuse and personal insults while on the course in Farmingdale, New York, with European talisman Rory McIlroy saying that "a lot of the language was unacceptable."

That also extended to the players' families, with Irishman Shane Lowry adding that McIlroy's wife, Erica, had received an "astonishing" amount of abuse.

The event's master of ceremonies, Heather McMahan, even stepped down and apologized after leading the fans in a chant of "f**k you, Rory" with a live microphone.

Asked on Wednesday about how European fans should behave during the 2027 Ryder Cup at Ireland's Adare Manor, Hatton told reporters: "If it was my choice, and obviously what I say isn't really going to affect how people behave, but I don't really think that the insults are the way forward.

"I would much prefer it to be a respectful atmosphere. You let the guys play and the best team wins, rather than trying to affect the outcome by trying to put off players or things like that. But I don't think it will be as hostile as maybe it was last week. I'd like to think that it will be very respectful."

Hatton also disagreed with comments from US captain Keegan Bradley that the atmosphere at Bethpage was similar to Rome for the 2023 Ryder Cup.

While admitting that he wasn't in Rome two years ago, Bradley went as far as to say that he heard the atmosphere there had been "pretty violent" in response to a question from CNN Sports' Don Riddell.

"Personally, I don't think that they were close at all," Hatton said ahead of appearing at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship this week. "With what I heard last week, I don't think Rome comes anywhere near that … I think they are quite far apart to be honest."

Hatton's European teammate Matt Fitzpatrick also said on Wednesday that it "was just never the case" that the atmosphere in Rome was comparable to what he experienced in New York.

Fitpatrick added that he felt there was "a little bit of bitterness" shown by PGA of America president Don Rea towards Europe's players during Sunday's trophy presentation. The PGA of America is a co-organizer of the Ryder Cup, alongside Ryder Cup Europe.

"Me and Rosey (Justin Rose) both looked at each other as if to say, that wasn't a very heartfelt congratulations, I know that," said Fitzpatrick. "He said we only retained (the trophy) and actually we won it."

CNN Sports has contacted the PGA of America for a response.

In an interview with the Golf Channel, PGA of America CEO Derek Sprague said that there is "no place" for the behavior displayed by some American fans at the Ryder Cup, adding that he plans to send an apology to McIlroy and wife Erica for what they were subjected to during the tournament.

College football has a new top quarterback and a new leader for the Heisman Trophy.

Sophomore Dante Moore has taken over after his performance in No. 2 Oregon's double-overtime win against No. 6 Penn State. Playing in the Big Ten's most hostile road environment, Moore threw for 248 yards and three touchdowns without an interception.

He's the latest in what has been a rotating cast of quarterback frontrunners since August. After Arch Manning and Cade Klubnik led the way in the preseason, Carson Beck and Fernando Mendoza occupied the top spot until Moore's breakthrough against the Nittany Lions.

Formerly the starter at UCLA, Moore spent last season learning the Ducks' system behind Dillon Gabriel. His experience with the Bruins and knowledge of this scheme have lifted Oregon into position behind only No. 1 Ohio State in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

PATH TO PLAYOFF: Sign up for our college football newsletter

Moore leads the way in this week's ranking of the best quarterbacks in college football:

1. Dante Moore, Oregon

In many ways, Moore is outplaying the standard set by Gabriel in his one year as Oregon's starter. Moore has one interception in 134 attempts. He's averaging 8.9 yards per attempt against Power Four teams. He's been a valuable runner, gaining 122 yards on 5.1 yards per carry, and used his legs to extend several key gains against Penn State. Moore's success has been a testament to his talent and Oregon's forward-thinking succession plan heading into last season.

Oregon quarterback Dante Moore (5) carries the ball during the first half against Oklahoma State at Autzen Stadium.2. Diego Pavia, Vanderbilt

No. 17 Vanderbilt's strongest Heisman contender in the modern era, Pavia's stock will continue to soar should he help pull off a second win against No. 11 Alabama in as many years. The Commodores haven't done that since 1955-56. The sixth-year senior tied a program record with five passing touchdowns in last weekend's rout of Utah State. He's ranked eighth in passing efficiency.

3. Fernando Mendoza, Indiana

Mendoza drops two spots from last week after tossing his first interception and completing a season-low 56.5% of his attempts in No. 9 Indiana's 20-15 win against Iowa. He also had two touchdowns and became the first quarterback to average more than 9.4 yards per attempt against the Hawkeyes since Purdue's David Blough in 2018. Mendoza has already set a high standard less than halfway through his first year with the Hoosiers.

4. Carson Beck, Miami

After struggling in nasty conditions in an ugly win against Florida the last time out for the No. 2 Hurricanes, Beck gets a chance to rebound in a high-profile rivalry matchup with No. 19 Florida State. With three interceptions in his past two games, Beck has to clean up his play to keep Miami on track for the ACC championship game.

5. Ty Simpson, Alabama

Simpson blitzed No. 10 Georgia's pass defense with a pair of touchdowns through the first minute of the second quarter, setting the tone for a 24-21 win that essentially salvages the Crimson Tide's season. The first-year starter is up to 1,138 yards and 11 scores without an interception as he grows more comfortable in Kalen DeBoer's scheme.

6. CJ Carr, Notre Dame

Playing out of the spotlight after No. 21 Notre Dame dropped games to Miami and No. 5 Texas A&M out of the gate, Carr has completed 32 of 42 attempts for 577 yards and six touchdowns in romps over Purdue and Arkansas. The former five-star recruit is one of the brightest young stars in college football.

7. Dylan Raiola, Nebraska

After getting battered by No. 20 Michigan's pass rush, Raiola had an extra week to get ready for a friendlier matchup against Michigan State's porous secondary. Look for a big day from an offense that ranks second nationally in completion percentage, 12th in passing touchdowns, 14th in yards per attempt and 11th in efficiency rating.

8. Julian Sayin, Ohio State

Sayin completed 22 of 28 throws for 208 yards and two scores without a turnover in the Buckeyes' 24-6 win at Washington. While the coaching staff cut Sayin loose in games against Gramling and Ohio, the wins against the Huskies and No. 7 Texas saw OSU lean on a more balanced game plan that should play very well against the best teams in the Big Ten.

9. Trinidad Chambliss, Mississippi

Chambliss continues to be the Power Four's breakout star after piloting the No. 4 Rebels to a 24-19 win against No. 13 LSU. The Ferris State transfer had 314 passing yards, 71 yards on the ground and a touchdown in his third start in a row in place of an injured Austin Simmons.

10. Haynes King, Georgia Tech

King has been on point in leading the No. 16 Yellow Jackets to just the program's fourth 5-0 start in 59 years. He had 243 passing yards, 106 rushing yards and three combined touchdowns in Saturday's 30-29 overtime win against Wake Forest and has cracked the 100-yard mark on the ground three times in four games. King rounds out the list over Missouri's Beau Pribula, Illinois' Luke Altmyer and Cincinnati's Brendan Sorsby.

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — To help turn around a troubled qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann is looking to a player who would be eligible to represent the United States.

Left back Nathaniel "Nene" Brown was called up by Germany on Thursday for qualifying games on Oct. 10 against Luxembourg and Oct. 13 against Northern Ireland. Nagelsmann called him "a big talent in defense."

They're crucial for Germany, which is only third in its group after it lost its opening game to Slovakia last month, as it bids to reach the World Cup in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Committing to Germany

The 22-year-old Brown is eligible for both nations, but playing for Germany in a competitive game over the age of 20 would close the door on representing the U.S. in the future.

Brown was born in Germany to an American father and German mother, and he plays for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. He was a key part of the Germany Under-21 team which lost the European Championship final to England in June.

Brown has said previously he was contacted about potentially representing the U.S. but is happy to stay with Germany.

"Of course," he said in a video released by Frankfurt in July, when asked if he'd thought about playing for the U.S. "There was contact as well, but I was born in Germany and I've played for the under-21s."

No Sané and Füllkrug

With Real Madrid's Antonio Rüdiger out injured, Nagelsmann will rely on Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck to hold the defense together. Schlotterbeck returned only this month from a five-month injury layoff.

"Even if we're still missing some players we're convinced our team has the quality to do better than it has done recently," Nagelsmann said. "With Toni Rüdiger out it's enormously important to have Nico Schlotterbeck back."

Newcastle's Nick Woltemade could be the first-choice striker after Nagelsmann dropped Niclas Füllkrug, who hasn't scored for West Ham since April. Forward Leroy Sané misses out again following his move to Turkish club Galatasaray, while Dortmund midfielder Pascal Gross also misses out.

Shannon Domingsil

Shannon Domingsil -

Shannon Domingsil, a 27-year-old from Honolulu, ran the NFL's official TikTok page for five years

In an interview with PEOPLE, she gives a behind-the-scenes look at "hectic" gamedays and shares her goals for the account

"People romanticize it a lot," Domingsil admits of the job. "But there's a lot of work that goes into it"

For five seasons, Shannon Domingsil had an opportunity millions of football fans would kill for: she watched every single NFL game for work.

But there was no lounging on the couch during game day; in fact, it was quite the opposite. From the minute of kickoff, it was "so, so, so, hectic," she says — constant monitoring of multiple video feeds, nonstop video editing, and posting as fast as her fingers would allow her.

"I would blink," remembers Domingsil, "and it was dinner time."

Until a few weeks ago, Domingsil was a social media programmer for the NFL. At the end of 2020, when she was just a 22-year-old college graduate, she took the reins of the league's official TikTok account — growing the platform's following over the next five years to a staggering 18 million people and punching up its like count to over 1.4 billion.

After leaving the position in August, Domingsil, now 27, sat down with PEOPLE, sharing her journey to the NFL, the goals she set for herself when she joined the organization and what she plans to pursue next.

Ironically enough, Domingsil's story begins in a city thousands of miles from the nearest NFL team. She was born and raised in Honolulu, and her eyes were always set on someday making it big in the entertainment industry.

"I've been singing and performing since I was five years old," says Domingsil. "But as the daughter of immigrant parents — they were very supportive when I was singing and performing in competitions, but for them, it was never like this could be my career."

Even though her mom wanted her to be a nurse, Domingsil had no interest. But she did love anything that had to do with cameras and video editing. ("Whenever there was a school project where you could write an essay or make a video, girl, I was making a video," she laughs.)

Domingsil's high school counselor recommended she explore broadcast journalism degrees, and so she left Hawaii for a small school in Southern California, where she got her BFA in news and documentary. Still a student, she loaded up her resume with impressive internships at media companies. After graduating in May 2020 — in the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic — she was looking for a job.

"For whatever reason, NFL Mic'd Up videos were something I constantly watched during COVID," says Domingsil, referencing the league's popular series where players are given mics in their helmets to catch their live commentary during games. "I'm like, this is so funny. This is so silly. I wonder if the NFL is hiring."

The league was hiring a social media programmer to run its TikTok account, and even though Domingsil says she "wasn't this huge sports fan," she decided to submit an application. She got the position.

"It was this huge accomplishment for me," says Domingsil. "Everyone knows those three little letters." Even her mom had let go of her dream of her daughter becoming a nurse, now bragging to her friends that her little girl was working for the NFL.

Domingsil got to work: finding ways to repackage football games into digestible clips and experimenting with various TikTok trends. The following year, as pandemic restrictions eased, she started to work out of the office, getting to experience the rush of running the league's socials on Sundays when there are sometimes ten overlapping games at once. And on Thanksgivings, as her family was going around the dinner table saying what they were thankful for, Domingsil was on the clock — clipping videos from the game to post.

"People romanticize it a lot," she admits of her job. "But there's a lot of work that goes into it."

From the beginning, says Domingsil, she had one overarching goal amid the day-to-day chaos: to make the NFL welcoming to as many demographics as she could.

"As a woman of color in sports, I wanted to make it as inclusive as possible," she says. "TikTok was a place that I could reach literally anybody."

Domingsil says she'd sometimes get hateful comments on her personal TikTok page — men questioning why a woman was running the NFL's account — but she'd also get the opposite: dads thanking her for carving out a space in the league for female fans like their daughters.

"If I can open a door where people can feel comfortable to be like, 'Oh, it looks like we're welcome here and it's a fellow girlie,' that's more incentive to lean into it," continues Domingsil. "We want to create a space where everyone is included and no one feels like they don't belong to watch this game."

She also oversaw the NFL's TikTok as pop superstar Taylor Swift started dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, which sent viewership soaring, particularly among young women. Swift's appearances also brought an onslaught of criticism from male fans, who were mad that her presence was distracting from the game. (Swift jokingly pushed back when she appeared on Kelce's podcast in August, sarcastically saying, "I think we all know that if there's one thing that male sports fans want to see in their spaces and on their screens — it's more of me.")

Domingsil, for one, leaned all the way in: In one of her most popular videos on her personal TikTok page, she shows a behind-the-scenes look at editing together a video of Swift's game day entrances, writing in her post, "job is so silly, job is so fun, job is so girly."

"You have somebody that is so huge that can bring together so many people, especially women and girls who may not have a huge footprint in the sports world because it's very male-dominated," she says of the Grammy winner. "And so when you have an opportunity to bridge the gap between this male-dominated sports world and the girls, gays, theys — whomever — I'm going to do."

After five busy seasons with the league, Domingsil is proud of the work that she did — integrating the NFL more deeply with pop culture, bringing in new kinds of fans and growing the league's account to the behemoth it now is — but she's ready to pivot.

"I pursued that dream and I fulfilled it," she says of her NFL job. "I'm really, truly grateful for my time at the NFL, obviously, but I'm even more grateful to have this answered prayer of my life going in the direction I want it to go."

After leaving the NFL, she has moved back home to Hawaii and picked up some contract work, which gives her more flexibility to dedicate to her next goal of becoming a pop singer. And someday, she hopes that she's performing sold-out shows in the same stadiums that she used to clip social media content for.

But even though she's not working for the organization, Domingsil says, she still throws on the game from time to time.

"I don't think I'll tune into every single game because I don't need to anymore," she tells PEOPLE. "But whenever I see the guys that I've worked with on the field, I've got to root for them."
