Naomi Watts is opening up about being a mom to 17-year-old model Kai
In an interview on Kelly Clarkson's daytime show, the actress said her teenager gives her "unsolicited" advice when it comes to fashion, which was the case when she attended the 2018 Met Gala with Michael Kors

Naomi Watthas got a friend and fashion critic in herdaughter Kai.
The actress, 57, welcomed her 17-year-old with exLiev Schreiberin 2008, and the teen has grown up to be quite the fashionista on and off the runway, so much so that she's not afraid to let 'er rip when it comes to handing out style advice.
In aninterview onThe Kelly Clarkson Showaired on Feb. 23, theAll's Fairstar said of Kai, "Fashion is a big topic in the household, especially now, and I take serious notes from her," adding, "Solicited or unsolicited."

Watts had to admit that "maybe they're right" when it comes to kids dishing out their opinions, but perhaps the one time she had second thoughts was when she attended the 2018 Met Gala.
Reflecting on the event, themed "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination," Watts said she showed her daughter two "beautiful" dress options by Michael Kors, the designer who dressed her for the evening. Kai made her pick, but it wasn't the ornate ensemble created with 9,000 crystals Watts picked in the end because she "felt really good in it."
"[Kai] just happened to FaceTime me on the way in the car with Mr. Michael Kors himself, and said, 'You wore the wrong dress.' For him to hear! And you know anyone with a creative bone in their body, they're very sensitive people. We're artists."

The dress Kai loved ended up having its moment in the spotlight at the 2018 Venice Film Festival, but even then, Watts said she inserted her playful judgment.

With Kai'smodeling career taking off,Watts has admitted she hasn't been completely hands-off. During an October 2025 appearance onToday with Jenna & Friends, she called herself"a bit of a momager."
"She's extra young, but she's got her head on, and it was a nice way for her to feel pride about what she's doing," Watts said. "It's exciting and very much younger than we anticipated. But for Kai, we felt she was ready."
The Oscar nominee has not only supported Kai from the front row and backstage, but the twoattended an Armani Beauty partyin New York City together in June.
