Teddy Bridgewater will not coach high school football this coming season. Instead, the veteran quarterback is signing a contract to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tampa general manager Jason Licht said the veteran Bridgewater is being brought in to help Baker Mayfield.

The 32-year-old Bridgewater led the Miami Northwestern Bulls to the Florida Class 3A state championship last season and then unretired to join the Detroit Lions. He served as Jared Goff's backup and did not appear in a regular-season game.

[Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season]

Last month, Bridgewater was suspended from Miami Northwestern after providing impermissible benefits to his players.

The suspension stemmed from a post Bridgewater put on Facebook on July 7 where he revealed he covered Uber rides, meals and recovery services for his players last season. He asked fans to donate and cover those expenses this year so they wouldn't have to come directly from his pocket.

That drew the attention of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA). An official with the FHSAA, Kelvin Richardson, told Rivals those allegations were sent to Miami Northwestern and that the FHSAA is working to gain more information.

Despite the ban, Bridgewater said he was not going anywhere and would "volunteer from the bleachers" like he'd done in the past.

There are a number of connections in the Bucs organization with Bridgewater. Tampa's defensive line coordinator, Charlie Strong, was his head coach at Louisville. He was also high school teammates with linebacker Lavonte David and worked with Josh Grizzard, the team's offensive coordinator, while he was with the Miami Dolphins.

It's also not the first time the Bucs had interest in Bridgewater. Licht said on Tuesday that Bridgewater was their Plan B had they not ended up signing in Tom Brady in 2020.

"We had him in here in 2014 before the draft, there might've been a situation where we would've taken him if he had fell a little further," Licht said. "And, you know, a few years ago, he was what was behind door No. 2. So, we talked about that today on the sideline. We ended up with Tom Brady, but now we have Teddy on the roster.

Bridgewater played nine NFL seasons with six teams before retiring after 2023 season, which he spent with the Lions. He threw for 15,120 yards and 75 touchdowns in 79 career games after being a first-round pick out of Louisville in 2014.

Tom Schad, USA TODAY August 5, 2025 at 8:48 PM

Donald Trump is slated to sign an executive order later today that will create a White House task force to handle issues surrounding the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, according to a White House statement.

Reuters reported the task force will focus on security and transportation issues, while also working to "streamline visa processing and credentialing for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media." Those types of broad coordination efforts are common ahead of the Olympics and typically spearheaded by the federal government of the host nation.

It is unclear who will serve on the task force, though multiple news outlets reported Trump will oversee it. A ceremony to sign the executive order is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.

Opinion: Trump can't save Olympic sports through executive order, but he can by funding them

"The President considers it a great honor to oversee this global sporting spectacle in his second term," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in the statement.

Leavitt added that Trump was "instrumental" in bringing the 2028 Summer Games to the United States and described sports as "one of President Trump's greatest passions."

The White House also provided a statement from Casey Wasserman, the chairperson of the 2028 Los Angeles organizing committee, touting Trump's efforts.

"The creation of this task force marks an important step forward in our planning efforts and reflects our shared commitment to delivering not just the biggest, but the greatest Games the world has ever seen in the summer of 2028," Wasserman said.

It is unclear how closely the task force will work with state entities and officials in California, such as Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. Both are Democrats and have clashed with Trump over domestic policy issues in the heavily-Democratic state, including the Trump administration's attempts to enforce immigration law. Protests broke out across Los Angeles earlier this summer after Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers raided locations across the city.

The creation of the Olympics task force comes about five months after Trump created a similar task force to handle issues surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup for men's soccer. The president appointed Andrew Giuliani, the son of his close ally Rudy Giuliani, as executive director of that group.

Justin BooneAugust 5, 2025 at 11:37 PM

Fantasy football managers are smarter than ever, so finding a player who's actually being slept on can be difficult. With that in mind, we're shifting our focus to late-round targets who could drastically outproduce their ADP in 2025.

Over the next week, I'll shine the spotlight on my favorite sleeper candidates at every key fantasy position — starting with quarterbacks.

[Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season]

Justin Boone's Fantasy Sleepers -

Quarterbacks

Running Backs (Aug. 6)

Wide Receivers (Aug. 7)

Tight Ends (Aug. 8)

Geno Smith, Raiders

Smith is an underrated NFL quarterback and, unfortunately, that perception bleeds over into the fantasy world.

It's true that his fantasy stats have taken a step back since his breakout campaign with the Seahawks in 2022, when he finished with the fifth-most points at his position and was a top-10 QB in fantasy points per game (18.5).

That year, he was eighth in passing yards, fourth in passing touchdowns and first in completion percentage.

There's no denying his 2023 season was more of a struggle, but injuries to Seattle's offensive line — including both starting tackles going down in the opener — increased the degree of difficulty. He stumbled to a QB25 result (15.7 fppg).

In 2024, Smith's numbers bounced back and he ended the year among the top five in passing yards and completion percentage. He even graded out as Pro Football Focus' eighth-best passer.

Fantasy-wise, that made him the QB17 on a per game basis (16.5 fppg). But the 34-year-old posted eight top-12 weekly performances, including six in the first half of the season before Tyler Lockett's performance declined.

The Raiders liked what they saw and traded for Smith, believing he could be their solution under center. Now, he's reunited with his coach during that career year: Pete Carroll. They're joined by Chip Kelly, who is bringing his uptempo attack to Vegas, which should keep Smith's arm busy.

You could also argue the supporting cast in the desert rivals the talent Smith had in the Pacific Northwest. Brock Bowers, Ashton Jeanty and Jakobi Meyers form the core, which will combine with a group of intriguing young wideouts vying for the No. 2 receiver job.

Remember when Jared Goff only had to play outdoors three times last year and it helped him deliver QB8 fantasy production? Well, Smith gets that cheat code this year, with 12 indoor games and just four outside. In addition, he gets the eighth-easiest slate in my fantasy strength of schedule matrix.

So, while he might be coming off two down years, it's hard to justify Smith going off the board after the top-20 quarterbacks in ADP. He's already proved he can be a low-end fantasy QB1 and, at worst, his situation in Vegas is setting him up to push for a high-end QB2 output.

Anthony Richardson Sr., Colts

Things weren't looking good for Richardson following an injury-plagued and inconsistent season, low-lighted by him taking himself out of a game to catch his breath. It seemed to get even worse, when he missed time in OTAs with a shoulder issue.

Thankfully, he was a full go for training camp and has earned a good amount of praise from those around the team for his recent performances in practice. As we know, Richardson just needs to get on the field in order to instantly be considered a fantasy starter.

The 23-year-old has only played the majority of the Colts' snaps 12 times over the last two seasons, but has eclipsed 20 fantasy points in 50% of those outings. The main reason for that is his rushing production. Even in an up-and-down campaign, Richardson still averaged over 45 rushing yards per contest — which was third-best in 2024, behind only Lamar Jackson and Jayden Daniels.

Indy has also assembled a great collection of talent at the skill positions, including Jonathan Taylor, Josh Downs, Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, Adonai Mitchell and first-round rookie tight end Tyler Warren, who apparently has been flashing a real connection with Richardson so far.

Despite being locked in a camp battle with Daniel Jones, Richardson is still someone worth taking a chance on as an extreme upside swing in the later rounds.

Michael Penix Jr., Falcons

Penix is a bit of a forgotten man, overshadowed by the massive fantasy potential of the other five quarterbacks taken in Round 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft.

After being forced to wait his turn behind veteran Kirk Cousins last season, Penix finally slid into the starting lineup in Week 16 and showed improvement in each subsequent appearance. He was the QB24 in fppg during that stretch, mostly on the back of a strong Week 18 performance when he threw for 312 yards and two scores while adding another touchdown on the ground.

Rushing production will be limited from a pocket passer like Penix, but he finds himself in the kind of offensive environment where he could thrive.

Bijan Robinson is arguably the best all-around running back in the league, Drake London announced his presence as a true No. 1 receiver last year, Darnell Mooney (when healthy) is an above-average second option and tight end Kyle Pitts has clearly formed a bond with Penix, who told reporters KP will be getting targeted often this year.

Penix will also benefit from a top-10 offensive line, a solid play-caller in Zac Robinson and the 10th-friendliest fantasy schedule among quarterbacks.

Though Penix might not have the same fantasy ceiling as some other young QBs due to his lack of rushing stats, he can still far outproduce his current ADP of QB25.

Cam Ward, Titans

I would normally never put a first-round pick in a sleeper column, but has there ever been a quarterback taken first overall who received less hype than Ward entering their rookie season?

Fantasy managers don't seem intrigued at all by the 23-year-old, and no one's making the case that he could surprise and be fantasy relevant in Year 1.

While that's still a long shot, let me remind everyone what Titans head coach Brian Callahan did when Joe Burrow went down for the last seven weeks of the 2023 season. Over that span, Callahan helped backup Jake Browning turn into a top-seven fantasy QB — though, it helps when you're throwing to the Bengals' dynamic duo of Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

To their credit, the Titans have made positive strides to improve their pass-catching corps — bringing in rookies Elic Ayomanor, Chimere Dike, Xavier Restrepo and maybe they can get something early in the season out of fading veteran Tyler Lockett. That new group will join star Calvin Ridley and promising tight end Chig Okonkwo. Tennessee also has two backs who are very capable in the passing game in Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears.

The Titans have even gone to great lengths to upgrade their offensive line, investing multiple first-round picks and many free-agent dollars in their blocking over the last couple of offseasons.

Whether that's enough for Ward to find success as a rookie remains to be seen. He does have the confidence and arm talent required to be a franchise quarterback. And while he's not the biggest threat as a runner, his pocket awareness allows him to buy time to make plays.

For fantasy, that might max him out as a mid-range QB2. However, that would make him a value where he's going now as the QB23.

'Naked Gun' Reboot Has a Wild Rotten Tomatoes Score originally appeared on Parade.

Even if it didn't take the box office this past weekend, The Naked Gun has certainly won over critics.

The 2025 reboot starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson is currently sitting at 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on a whopping 232 reviews.

The comedy is based on the 1988 classic, The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, which starred the late, great Leslie Nielsen.

When the reboot was officially greenlit in 2022, fans were curious if Neeson, 73, could adequately fill the shoes of Nielsen, who died in 2010 at age 84. But it seems the Taken star has lived up to the task.

"With Liam Neeson's gravelly gravitas proving to be a perfect fit for Frank Drebin's deadpan buffoonery, The Naked Gun revives the original trilogy's daffy sense of humor like it never went out of style," reads the Critics Consensus on Rotten Tomatoes.

Deadline critic Pete Hammond praised the film, writing, "With rapid-fire gags and a game cast trying hard to play it all completely straight, this nakedly hilarious Naked Gun is a welcome return in a time where we can use a few good laughs. This one has more than a few if sight gags, literal humor and characters short a few cards of a full deck are your idea of a good time."

The Hollywood Reporter critic David Rooney, meanwhile, called Anderson, 58, the film's "MVP."

"Neeson's scenes with Anderson are bliss," Rooney also wrote. "Continuing her renaissance after The Last Showgirl, Anderson displays impeccable comic timing, never leaning too hard into a line when her breathy throwaway delivery can land a bigger laugh."

Paul Walter Hauser also stars in the reboot and recently shared his interest with Deadline in further embracing the franchise.

"Rarely does a really funny comedy come around. The fact that I get to be a part of it is an honor," said Hauser, 38. "I have seen Naked Gun three times now, and I stand by it, and we all hope we get to do another one."

Country Star Zach Bryan Burns Flag 9 Months After Dramatic Breakup originally appeared on Parade.

Nine months after his tumultuous breakup from Barstool Sports personality Brianna "Chickenfry" LaPaglia,Zach Bryan is done talking. Instead, he's flag-burning.

The 29-year-old "Something in the Orange Singer" took to his Instagram Story on Monday, August 9, to share a video of himself lighting a Barstool Sports flag — one emblazoned with the brand's famous "Saturdays Are for the Boys" tagline — on fire. A few seconds after it ignites, Bryan takes his golf club and hit half of the already-incinerated flag across his property. In the next video, he hops on board his tractor, apparently to go retrieve it.

Bryan set the whole flag-burning process to the tune of Tyler Childers' "Bitin' List" — specifically the lines: "To put it plain, I just don't like you / not a thing about the way you is / And if there ever come a time I got rabies / you're high on my bitin' list."

In addition to the telling lyrics, the country crooner's use of a Childers song could also be reference to the scathing diss track Barstool Sports' Dave Portnoy and Josh Richards dropped about Bryan in the wake of his split from LaPaglia.

Country star Zach Bryan burns Barstool Sports' 'Saturdays Are for the Boys' flag in August 2025, nine months after his split from Barstool personality Brianna "Chickenfry" LaPaglia.Zach Bryan/Instagram

In October 2024, Bryan and LaPaglia broke up after months of dating, with the musician announcing their breakup in a lengthy post on social media. LaPaglia, for her part, soon went on her Barstool BFFs podcast, whom she hosts with Richards and, at the time, big boss Portnoy, who founded the sports brand. On the pod, LaPaglia accused Bryan of emotional abuse and further alleged that offered her $12 million to not discuss their split, which she turned down.

Portnoy and Richards, for their part, came up with a wildly NSFW diss track about Bryan in defense of LaPaglia.

Among the many lyrics aimed at the "Oklahoma Smokeshow" crooner, one line they rap in particular, is: "Your whole style's Morgan Wallen, Tyler Childers, Copy Paste."

Though October 2025 will mark a year since Bryan and LaPaglia's split, it looks like the drama is far from over — especially as Bryan's new fire-filled social media stunt comes on the heels of a jab he reportedly made at LaPaglia just last month.

After a fan speculated that a new lyric on his song "River Washed Hair" could be about LaPaglia — "And I think I might pack a bag in the night / Find me some small town out West / Start over, find closure and just say 'I'm sorry' / To that sweet girl who tore off that dress," Bryan sings on the track — he took a shot at LaPaglia when shooting down the speculation.

"Lmfao I said 'sweet,'" Bryan wrote in a comment that has since been deleted, per Taste of Country. "This is not about whatever she has going on hahahahahaah."

Rushed Consumer Shopping Sprees

In the initial few months of tariff threats, Americans rushed to buy goods before they rose in price.

"The whipsaw tariff announcements left many Americans feeling the need to stockpile and rush purchases that they may or may not need down the line," said Aaron Razon, a consumer finance expert with Couponsnake. "In their anxiety and uncertainty, many consumers rushed into making purchases."

Indeed, TransUnion reported that consumer credit card balances rose to $1.07 trillion in the first quarter (the most recent available data), up from $769 billion in 2022.

Sustained Inflation Uncertainty

It remains unclear just how much the Trump administration's tariffs will drive up inflation. While it remained muted in the early months of the year, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a jump in inflation last month.

Economics professor Brandon Parsons, Ph.D., of Pepperdine University explained that the impact of tariffs is just now starting to hit retail shelves. "Importer inventory stockpiles and tariff agreement delays have kept the numbers quiet. But apparel prices jumped 8% from the April 2 tariffs alone and are up 17% overall from all tariff actions this year. While motor vehicles were unaffected by the April tariffs, the cumulative 2025 actions have driven car prices up 8.4%, adding roughly $4,000 to the cost of a typical 2024 vehicle," he said.

Higher Metal Prices

Tariffs specifically targeting steel, aluminum and copper could drive up the cost of everything from cars and consumer goods to new homes and house renovations.

"Higher costs for metal lead to less supply and higher prices," Parsons said. He pointed to a report by the Washington Center for Equitable Growth, indicating a 2% to 4.5% increase in manufacturing costs. "That could decrease sales and lead to greater unemployment, as well as less disposable income for Americans buying these products."

Businesses Cautious on Hiring and Expansion

It's hard for businesses to make long-term plans when the regulatory environment changes so rapidly. That has left many businesses slowing down hiring and other long-term investments.

As CBS News reported, the July employment report showed disappointing numbers, "with the data suggesting the job market is wobbling from the uncertainty of on-again, off-again tariffs."

Stock Market Frothiness

Retail investors don't share businesses' caution, however, and drove major U.S. stock indexes to record highs in late July.

Investment platform GuruFocus reported a price-to-earnings ratio of 28.79 as of August 1, compared with a median ratio of 17.97. It also reported that the Buffett Indicator shows total U.S. stock valuations at 208.3% of GDP, compared with more normal ratios in the 100% to 150% range.

And then there's the resurgence of meme stock mania to show off the full frothiness of U.S. stocks.

Lower Taxes for Most Americans — for Now

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act lowered the effective tax rates for most Americans. The majority (56%) of economists surveyed in July by Wolters Kluwer see the new tax law as stimulative to the economy.

Yet many economists also worry about rising U.S. debt levels. The Bipartisan Policy Center calculated that the bill will cost the government $3.4 trillion over the next 10 years.

That could cause future administrations and lawmakers to push for higher taxes to contain soaring debt. For now, however, taxpayers can enjoy lower effective tax rates and some higher deductions and credits.
