Social media erupted with mixed reactions—some criticized his annoyance while others defended the 77-year-old’s health concerns, noting his cancer diagnosis and pneumonia risk at his age. Queen Camilla grabbed her umbrella and ran for shelter, leaving Charles drenched until he finally received cover. The weather wasn’t on King Charles’s side during his and Queen Camilla’s Caribbean tour. Charles got completely soaked during the annual Independence Ceremonial Parade at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and Barbuda on Sunday, November 1—and the internet is losing it at his reaction.
As he attempted to celebrate 45 years of the country’s independence during the parade, Charles appeared visibly annoyed when he was left to his own devices in the rain. According to a People report, the king was “fuming” at aides who were scrambling to find him an umbrella.
People couldn’t contain their thoughts once they caught wind of the clip. One person criticized the King’s behavior, writing, “Remember when Kings went to WAR???”
Someone else chimed in, “Bit of rain is about all he ever has to worry about. Must be nice.” Others even joked that he was worried about “melting” in the wet weather.
“He’s 77 years old. It’s unacceptable to expect anyone of that age to stand in pouring rain, let alone a visiting head of state,” someone else wrote in the king’s defense. Someone else pointed out that he was likely worried about his health conditions, adding, “Very understandable as he has cancer and also is at an age where you can get pneumonia.”
That’s not all the internet had to say about the matter. In another clip circulating online, Charles continued getting soaked as Queen Camilla ran toward some shelter after she was handed her umbrella.
“I thought it was hysterical that Camilla grabbed the umbrella and ran off with it!” someone shared, while others suggested that other members of the royal family, including Meghan Markle and Charles’s late ex, Princess Diana , would have shared their umbrellas during his time of need.
Things smoothed over eventually, as Charles finally received an umbrella. He and Camilla were even photographed once they were seated away from the rain, laughing about the situation.
That being said…Charles probably relates to Barbra Streisand’s “Don’t Rain on My Parade” a little differently now.
